Applications for the 2026 Merritt Felmly Memorial Scholarships
will be accepted ​through midnight February 16, 2026!

In 2023, Plano Civic Chorus established a permanent scholarship in memory of Merritt Felmly. Merritt was an inspiring member of the chorus. He was a lifelong singer whose life exemplified the love of choral music and service to others. Merritt used his talent of singing to enrich and bless all who knew him.  Merritt was well loved and loved well. When Merritt was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer he requested that upon his death donations in his honor be made to Plano Civic Chorus.  These funds were used to establish a scholarship fund set up in perpetuity and to be named:  THE MERRITT FELMLY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP.

This season, four $1,000 scholarships will be awarded. Two will be awarded to high school seniors and the other two will be awarded to students enrolled in college at any level, freshmen through graduate school. We will also be making a donation of $250 to the school choral programs of the high school winners.

REQUIREMENTS
• Participation in choral organization(s)
• Submit a transcript demonstrating minimum GPA 3.0
• Submit a 500-1000 word essay describing how choral music has impacted your life. This can include why you love choral music and why you would be honored to receive this award
• Submit a maximum 4 minute video of a vocal solo 
• List choral experience and awards if applicable
• Present letter of recommendation from a choral director
• Candidates must live and attend schools in the DFW metroplex, which includes the following counties: Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall, Johnson, Parker, Tarrant, and Wise.
